On October 11, the Orange County Register featured an article about two of our own – Bob Kohler and Tony Gonzalez. According to the Register, on Veteran’s Day 2010, Bob founded an honor guard to “pay tribute to those who have served in the military.” This is no surprise to the STM Knights. We know Bob as a proud American who loves our country.
Bob, now 85, is also a runner. He runs marathons, and recently, in honor of the 40th anniversary of the Diocese of Orange, he ran in the first annual Christ Cathedral 5k. As a show of patriotism, Bob carries a flag when he runs.
On October 11, Bob, Tony, and four other members of the honor guard were at the funeral services for Joseph Molleta. They paid tribute to him and presented a flag to his family. The article quoted Bob as saying, “We served under the flag. We deserve to be taken away under a flag.”
Bob and Tony represent the principals of the Knights of Columbus – Charity, Fraternity, Unity, and Patriotism – in every sense of those words. It is our honor to call them brother knights.
